Born from a 3 a.m. revelation (one of those nights), Letters To Mon Coeur was conceived to Pablo De Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen Op. 20, each scene unfolding in my mind as the music played. It was also my first time working with a cast and crew; a tiny team of five, myself included.
Filmed 3 years ago, I’m considering a remake, addressing the original’s flaws while building on what worked. The “letters” will be more legible, and each line will appear with consistent timing. I’ll also brighten scenes without losing their silhouette beauty, and make a few other subtle adjustments.
At its core, however, the film remains an experiment. One that, I think, captures the quiet peace I felt that night. It plays out like a poem: to be savoured, not eaten. (Ralph Fiennes, The Menu)
